Suay started because one founder couldn't find a hat that fit. Not one that looked right. Not one that felt right. So he built it.
The Problem
Every hat gave me a headache.
Jason Knott wears a 7¾. If you know, you know. Most hats are an afterthought at that size — maxed-out snaps, pressure points, a fit that says “this wasn’t made for you.”
After years of settling, he stopped looking for the right hat and started building it. Not from a boardroom. From frustration.
The Breakthrough
Inspired by a watch band.
The idea came from an Apple Watch band. Something soft. Something that gives. Jason wanted that same feel on the back of a hat — a closure that adapts to your head instead of fighting it.
The hard part wasn’t the material. It was getting it to snap together. After months of prototyping, the patent-pending silicone snapback was born — the first real closure innovation in 70 years.

Every Suay hat is designed in our Salt Lake City studio and tested in the conditions right outside the door.
The People
Two people. One obsession.
We didn’t start Suay to build a company. We started it because I couldn’t find a hat that fit and Libby was tired of hearing about it.
I came from software and wanted to make something I could hold in my hands. Libby brings the eye. Together we handle everything — design, operations, customer experience, the lot. No team of 50. No agency of record. Just us.
